Programme Summary


This UNESCO programme was initiated to assist in the development of independent and pluralist mass media by offering support mechanisms and training for the development of women in media. Through many mass media activities, the project sought to promote awareness of journalist and human rights issues, including free press in a democractic society.

Communication Strategies



Regional Centre established and co-ordinated at the Faculty of Journalism of the Kyrgyz State National University. A co-ordinator and consultant were appointed, meeting and workshops were held, and computer and English training ensued in five republics.

Women in Media, development of independent mass media, human rights.

Key Points



A number of complementary activities are being carried through the regular programme and by mobilizing support from other organizations.
