Evaluation Design
- A post-intervention national survey of 2000 children aged 8 –13, using 50 schools (representative of Primary, Combined and Senior Primary Schools in South Africa) as access points. A probability-based stratified random sampling method was used.
- A post-intervention national survey of 1500 parents / caregivers, accessed through the same schools (see 1). Where possible, interviews were conducted with the parents / caregivers of children sampled.
- A post-intervention national survey of 50 principals and 50 teachers in the schools sampled (see 1).(Data collection in all 3 the surveys entailed individual, face-to-face interviews using standardized questionnaires.)
- Post-intervention qualitative research conducted in 3 schools - in a metropolitan area, a peri-urban area and a rural area respectively. Data collection entailed qualitative interviews with children, parents and teachers and/or principals.
- Post-intervention qualitative research conducted within 6 households (2 per area). Data collection entailed qualitative interviews conducted with children and their parents, conducted within the broader family context.
