Programme SummaryCommunication StrategiesThis programme draws on the use of an interactive, multilingual website - click here for access - as a platform for publication and exchange of articles, programmes, experiences, and knowledge about women's issues, discussions, training and networking. It deals with topics that include: women at the top, defying traditions, gender mainstreaming, the price women pay in times of war in Darfur, HIV/AIDS and the vulnerability of girls, and interviews (e.g., with 'Bayam-Sellams', Cameroonian market women who are driving forces behind the country's economic growth). The network’s website is not limited by traditional boundaries between Francophone, Anglophone and Lusophone readers. Some of its work is in English and some in French, depending on the preferred language of the contributing member. The site was a result of a 3-day workshop on "The Use of the New ICT For Women Media Professionals in Africa", held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in August 2004. Organised by Feminia and the Radio Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC), the workshop was aimed at establishing a network of both new and experienced media professionals in Africa, who can together make full use of the possibilities offered by new ICTs. Development IssuesGender, Women, Technology. Key PointsThe network’s objective is to set up an additional framework for professional expression and a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences for female African journalists and communications professionals.
