Small Arms and Light Weapons Awareness Support PackPublication Date2005 SummaryThe Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Awareness Support Pack (SASP) was first published in 2003 by the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders working on small arms problems in South Eastern Europe. The support pack was developed to address low levels of knowledge, skills and resources available to undertake SALW Awareness. The first edition was revised, resulting in SASP 2. Consisting of a handbook and CD-ROM, the support pack set out the principles and procedures that have been identified as necessary for safe and effective SALW Awareness programming, and provides a collection of supporting materials. It has been designed for use by stakeholders preparing to develop or take part in SALW Awareness programmes, including members of civil society, national SALW authorities, international organisations, donors, or security/peace-keeping forces.
The SASP package includes an operational handbook with a set of logically structured guidelines for those conducting SALW Awareness programmes, illustrated with examples from the field. The CD-ROM contains supporting materials and publications, including:
