The Université de Bourgogne was founded in 1722, when its Law Faculty opened in Dijon, France. At the beginning of the 19th century, it extended to other disciplines in arts, sciences, medicine, and pharmacy studies. Today it is one of the largest universities in France, with nearly 27,000 students.

The Université de Bourgogne seeks to work with international universities and students, including more than 3,000 students from abroad. It has participated in European exchange programmes since the beginning of the Erasmus/Socrates European inter-university exchange.

Programmes

  1. Master of Strategies of International Communication (DESS Strategies de Communication Internationale) -

The Université de Bourgogne is a member of the European Union (EU)-endorsed Master's programme "CoMundus". This Master's degree corresponds to the CoMundus European Master of Arts in Media, Communication, and Cultural Studies. The courses follow two main strands:

    1. Communication strategies in business and in the media.
    2. European Media: the economic, legal, and cultural dimensions.

The courses explore: the theory of communication and information, psychological theories, cultural studies, communication strategies, and professionalisation. Students are taught to understand communication processes within complex systems. The approach is international and intercultural. Students acquire a strategic vision of communication within organisations (how to build a communication plan) and are taught how to analyse communication messages in the organisation or in the media (based on a semiotic approach).

The Master's programme works closely with 2 research laboratories, which are recognised and financed by the Ministry for Research:
    • Le LIMSIC (laboratoire sur le image, les mediations et le sensible en information communication)

    • Le CRCMD (centre de recherche sur la culture, les musees et la diffusion des savoirs).

    The research areas are:

    • Sensorial communication in the media (taste, flavour, non-verbal communication)

    • The aesthetics of social communication (the media and mediation)

    • The mediation of science and knowledge.
