Description

Communication University of China (CUC), an affiliate of the State Ministry of Education, was founded in March 1954. CUC has 13 schools in the university in the areas of journalism and communication, radio, film, and television arts, information science and technology, literature, engineering, management, law, economics, and science, thought through the College of Television and Journalism, International Communications College, Advertising College, College of Film and Television Art, College for Cartoon-Making, College for Televised Broadcasting and Presentation, Information Engineering (IE) College, College of Science, College of Computer and Software Technologies, Media Management College, College of Literature, College of Social Sciences, and College of Distance Education and Continuing Education.

CUC promotes international academic exchanges and has established linkages with over 200 universities, research institutions, and broadcasting or television organisations in more than 40 countries, including the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Russia. Attaining a full membership in CILECT (the International Association for Film and Television Schools), CUC holds various international academic seminars and conferences regularly for the purpose of enhancing exchanges with colleagues abroad. There is a School of Distance Education & Continuing Education in the CUC, which takes the teaching modes of correspondence, night school, and modern distance education to form a multi-media system with different levels and serve various needs in a full range. As of July 2009, 9 branch colleges, 31 correspondence stations, 32 distance learning centres had been set up in 31 locations around the country.

The educational philosophy of CUC, according to its online information, is "to establish roots in the radio and TV system, build upon the media community, and open up the school to society ....CUC has formed its own distinct characteristics: to have close relations with radio, film and television; to run the school in a multi-level and open way; to optimize the comparative advantage and integrate multi-disciplinary teaching into creative teaching; to emphasize students' all-round capabilities and professional ethics; to combine theory with practice and knowledge-teaching with ability-training."
