The STARS Impact Awards

The STARS Impact Awards, offered by the STARS Foundation, are annual awards for charities (with income levels between US$100,00 and US$5 million) that work with disadvantaged children in each of STARS' three chosen areas of health, education and protection. This year, the awards are for organisations located and working in Africa. The Award in each category will be a cash award of US$100,000 as well as consultancy support.



STARS Impact Awards will recognise and support organisations that enhance their impact and effectiveness through a combination of good management practices, entrepreneurship, and working with others. The Impact Awards are open to non-profit organisations based in any of the following countries:


Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Cote D'Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.



The specific criteria that STARS is interested in are:


  • Delivery of programmes that positively affect the lives of disadvantaged children and an ability to measure and demonstrate impact;
  • Governance and accountability to stakeholders;
  • Effective finance and administration;
  • Use of technology and ICT to enhance delivery of programmes;
  • Innovation and flexibility;
  • Networking and collaborating with other organisations;
  • Collaboration and partnerships;
  • Development of staff members and/or volunteers; and
  • Inclusion and access.



The deadline for application is February 1 2008.
