MacArthur Foundation Grants for Population and Reproductive HealthCountries
India, Mexico, Nigeria
Deadline DateRolling deadline Two themes form the core of this grantmaking:
For its work on reproductive health (RH), the Population and Reproductive Health grants focus (and have offices) in three countries - India, Mexico, and Nigeria. For Mexico, the Foundation supports work by civil society organisations (CSOs) and networks that strive to reduce the highest maternal mortality ratios, concentrated among rural and indigenous women in three states (Chiapas, Guerrero, and Oaxaca), and to reduce abortion-related maternal death. In the area of advancing young people’s reproductive and sexual rights and health, the Foundation focuses grantmaking on initiatives in the area of sexuality education and improving government services for youth reproductive and sexual health. To help reduce maternal mortality and morbidity in Nigeria, grants are made in support of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that seek to reduce maternal mortality in Nigeria by improving access to, use of, and quality of maternal health care. To promote the reproductive health and rights of young people, the Foundation focuses its grantmaking on initiatives that implement the federal government's national sexuality education curriculum. Grants are also made for the development and bringing to scale of models for out-of-school youth, so that they can be replicated in other states and nationally. Grants are made for work at the national level and for work in six states: Borno, Cross River, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, and Plateau. In its grantmaking in India, the Foundation works at the national level by providing grants to institutions engaged in training, research, and policy-related information activities as part of an effort to encourage national discussion of population and reproductive health issues. MacArthur also focuses on three states in India - Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Grants are awarded only to organisations that define clear objectives for their work and measures of progress toward those objectives. Typically, the Foundation provides multi-year support. Proposals must fit clearly within the geographic and thematic priorities of the Population and Reproductive Health area to be considered. The deadline for application is a rolling deadline.
