Description

Since its inception in 1996, the Centre for Health Promotion Studies has established itself as a provider of health promotion graduate education and research with community and academic partnerships. Graduate programmes in Health Promotion lead toward either a Master of Science Degree (MSc), Master of Public Health Degree (MPH-HP), or a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD). These programmes were launched in response to the demand from the health sector for professionals who possess the new knowledge and skills needed to successfully engage in health promotion activities.

Programmes

  1. Master of Science Degree (MSc) - A thesis-based programme designed to enhance students' knowledge, skills, and research capabilities. Graduates work as practitioners and/or researchers providing leadership in health promotion development, research, and evaluation. MSc students must complete eight courses in addition to their thesis. The MSc degree is available through a campus-based format only. It may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Normally, this programme must be completed in four years.
  2. Master of Public Health Degree (MPH-HP) - This course-based programme is designed to provide graduates with a strong professional practice and community leadership orientation that will allow them to assume practice and administrative roles in health promotion. Students must complete a capping exercise project in conjunction with a four-month, full-time practicum. The MPH-HP (course-based) degree may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis, either on campus or at a distance. Normally, the MPH-HP programme must be completed within six years of initial registration.
  3. Postgraduate Diploma - This course-based programme is aimed at building similar competencies to those which form the basis of the MSc programme, but without the strong research and evaluation emphasis. The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme can be completed on a full- or part-time basis and as a campus or distance learning student. Normally, the programme must be completed within four years of initial registration.
