SADC Media Awards Competition

The South African (SA) Chapter of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Media Awards has launched the 2009 Media Awards Competition, which is open to all South African journalists who have covered SADC. The award is offered in the fields of print, radio, television, and photojournalism. The award offers a prize of US$2,000, which will be awarded to each category. The themes of the entries to be submitted for the competition must be related to issues and activities promoting regional integration or integrated water-resource management in the SADC region.

Application Information

Submissions must contain full contact details of the journalist, including a passport-sized photograph, physical address, telephone number, and, where applicable, a fax number and email address. The following rules govern the competition:

  • All South African journalists and media practitioners may enter the competition, except those institutions or organisations contracted to SADC and SADC Secretariat staff.
  • The entries should have been published/broadcast by an acknowledged media house in South Africa.
  • All entries for the competition should be in one of the SADC working languages, i.e. English, Portuguese, or French, and they should be submitted as they were published/broadcast (newspaper and magazine cuttings, website addresses, audio, or video cassettes accompanied, by transcripts in any of the SADC languages).
