Q&A for Managers of President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) BCC/IEC Programs

Publication Date

March 20, 2009

Summary

This support document for the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) programme managers explains the difference between managing a procurement programme and managing to change opinion, attitudes, and behaviour on use of recommended malaria preventions, such as: insecticide-treated nets (ITNs); artemisinin-containing combination therapies (ACTs); or intermittent preventive treatment (IPTp) for all pregnant women. It is created to give support to those managing behaviour change communication (BCC) and information, education, and communication (IEC) programmes. Published in question-and-answer (Q&A) format,  it is designed to cover what programme managers can and should require of contractors and partners.

Topics include:

  1. What should I require BCC/IEC programmes to achieve at start up, expansion, and full-scale implementation? (This answer includes a "Checklist for One Year")
  2. Technical questions
  3. Programme implementation questions
  4. Monitoring and evaluation questions
  5. Costs and budgeting questions
