Programme Summary
The Chandigarh, India-based non-profit service and advocacy organisation DadaDadi is using short messaging service (SMS) and other technologies in an effort to ensure the safety of elderly people living alone in the city. Communication StrategiesDadaDadi uses information and communication technologies (ICTs) to offer ageing Indians an emotional, financial, and health support structure. A call centre with over 2,000 employees runs a DadaDadi helpline (call 0 9888 9888 47) for elderly people so that by telephoning or texting they may ask for a plumber, electrician, a travel agent, or anything of the sort - free of charge. (Sending an email to Care@dadadadi.org and/or utilising the "Gtalk" function - mydadadadi@gmail.com - are other ways of getting in touch). By also providing an informational portal and interactive blog, DadaDadi hopes to support and show respect for parents when they get old. An advocate on staff of the non-governmental organisation (NGO) is available to provide legal help to the elderly. Other services the organisation has been providing - and that are being facilitated through the call centre and website - to senior citizens are designed to address needs related to pension, taxation, insurance, travel, health care, court cases, and emotional and social connection - among others.
