Author

Nishi Viswanathan

Publication Date

March 1, 2009

Summary

This comic book is the first in a series of health comics intended to entertain, engage, and educate school-going children all over India. "A Tale of Two Magic Potions" aims to spread malaria awareness, especially in areas where the disease is more prevalent, such as North East India.

It was created by a small team from Chillibreeze Solutions Pvt. Ltd., an India-based content and design service provider. Chillibreeze Director and Chief Content Officer Nishi Viswanathan said, "The main aim was to spread the awareness about hazards of Malaria but not through traditional means. We wanted to do something that could have a lasting effect on young minds. Education in the form of brochures can sometimes be boring and ineffective, hence we selected comic book for its entertainment value. Education here occurs via osmosis and the content on malaria is there but not in your face. The goal is to get kids to enjoy it."

The comic book is being distributed free of cost to schoolchildren; it is also available online. In addition, Chillbreeze will send 5 free printed copies to those who send their mailing address to info@Chillibreeze.com Once recipients have distributed/used the 5 copies, they can request additional copies by writing to Chillbreeze about their experiences with the comic. Chillibreeze hopes to build strategic partnerships for this project and distribute translated versions of the comic book at schools across India. "Corporates and NGOs [non-governmental organisations] can help with the printing and distribution of the comic book. We are open to sharing the distribution license with other organizations as long as this helps reach a wider audience."
